Tonight at Finn’s

May 20th, 2010

Don’t forget, Mordacai is hosting open decks tonight at Finn’s.  This week’s theme: breakbeat.  If you love some breakbeat (or $2 Bud Lights, $8 pitchers), get your ass out there.  If you’re a DJ, remember it’s vinyl only, so bust out the old breakbeat wax and head on down!

THIS WEEKEND IS BANANAS YO

May 20th, 2010

There’s a hell of a lot going on this weekend, and y’all should check it out.  First off, Club Whisper is the new name of an old club under new management, and they are very friendly to EDM.  In fact, they’ve got it bumping both nights this weekend.  First, njntrubl‘s doing his Friday thing:

And then, Marcobiotics, Aleve, and njntrubl will be tearing it up again Saturday night:

Also going on Saturday night is Electric Shock, a rave being thrown by EDM Wichita and External Bass.

Seriously, if you want to hear some great DJs spinning great tunes this weekend, you have NO EXCUSES.  Hit up one or all of these events.

TONIGHT at Club Whisper

May 14th, 2010

I don’t have an e-flyer yet, so here’s the facebook link.

Come out for electronic dance music.  I believe I shall share with you some electro house and dubstep this evening.

“Club Whisper
7007 E Harry

21+, $2 cover, 2-4-1 Wells and $2 domestic bottles”

See you there!

It’s been raining cats and dogs for hours

May 12th, 2010

Also, I’m supposed to be studying for an algebra final right now.

But, RAIN!

Yeah, I went bananas with this.  What do you want.

OKAY HERE WE GO:

First, just to make your head asplode, here is some silly-ass down home country bluegrass.  Yes, I listen to everything.

Alison Krauss and Union Station – Rain Please Go Away.mp3

Next, here’s some thought-provoking folk music by a great artist out of Austin, TX.  This song was around during a really tough part of my life.

Patty Griffin – Rain.mp3

More folk music. I went through a huge Simon & Garfunkel stage in high school.  I think it was hipster before there was such a thing, because I was all into my minimal studio apartment in a shitty building downtown too, and playing records, and not having a TV. *shrug*

Simon and Garfunkel – Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall.mp3

And here’s one that was a huge favorite of mine for a long time.  This song holds a warm place in my heart.  It has a feeling of sentimental longing, which for some reason has always resonated with me.  The Samples are maybe the greatest band to never get a big record deal, even though they almost made it a number of times. I guess it just wasn’t in the cards for them.  Sean, the lead singer, is one heck of a nice guy.

The Samples – The Streets in The Rain.mp3

Okay, enough deep thought.  Here’s a really sweet chilled out downtempo hip-hop beat, which I love simply for the sake of a good beat.

People Under the Stairs – Acid Raindrops (Instrumental Mix).mp3

Speaking of chill, I love this too.  I’ve always loved Enya’s music.  Go ahead, make fun.  You ain’t gonna change my mind.

YES.

Africa

April 23rd, 2010

I’ve been on a big house kick lately. I even played a set of old & new school house at Nice Try last weekend – first house set I’ve played in a very long time.

So it’s kind of devastating that I only just  discovered this track today, because I’d have totally played it.  It’s a combination of two of my very favorite things – house, and 80s music.  Specifically, Africa by Toto.

YES, I already have a house remix of this song.  There are like a million of them, whatever.  This one is greatness.  It’s got a great beat, a chopped up vocal, and some electro noise.  Enjoy!

My buddy Marcobiotics just hollered at me to see if I wanted to spin at his monthly, Fix Fridaze at Club Xes, on Friday the 16th.  Of course I said yes, so now you’ll have two chances to come out and party that weekend!  Do it!
