This track is called Hide & Seek, by Imogen Heap.  It’s not new, but it’s beautiful and kind of genius.  I first came across it a couple years ago.  Listen to it, because it’s the base for the next two tracks I’m about to talk about.

The first thing I thought when I heard it was, “OMG this song is DYING to be remixed.”  So I searched and searched and searched.  I found quite a few remixes, but I didn’t feel like any of them were quite right.  Until I found one by Randy Boyer & Eric Tadla.  Yes, it’s trance, but the fact that trance is allowed to have big epic breakdowns where house (and pretty much everything else in the world) isn’t means that this remix is really able to follow and make use of the original track, where some of the other house remixes just repeat sections of the song over and over again. Creativity fail, that.  So here’s the Josh-approved remix.  Is it a peak hour dance floor banger?  Hell no.  Trance never is.  But as a remix of the original, I feel it does it justice.

But wait!  We’re not done here yet!  I’m listening to the radio the other day (a rare occurrence for me) and I hear what I think is the original Imogen Heap track.  What? On the local “urban” station? This makes no sense at – oh.  They just dropped an R&Bish sort of beat over it.  And who’s this tool singing?

Turns out that tool is Jason DeRulo, and he’s not a tool at all – the track is actually pretty dope.  Musically I can hear a lot of Knock You Down by Keri Hilson, which is another R&B track I happen to rather enjoy.

When I heard Hide & Seek, I knew it was ripe for a remix, but for some reason the idea of sampling it never crossed my mind.  The DeRulo track does a pretty decent job of it though, I feel.  Peep it for yourself and see what you think.
