And before you bitches even get started, yes, I know what a dork I look.  I wasn’t the least bit drunk, I was just having a blast. :-)

And of course the obligatory superstar DJ pose, which I totally do not remember doing:

So not only did I have a blast, but I actually unlocked three DJ achievements.

  1. J is a friend of mine and a local DJ who I look up to.  Ten years ago when I was at the club listening to wicked electronic music and watching the DJs play, and thinking “you know, I would like to do that”, J was the guy behind the decks a lot of the time.  So when it comes to DJ stuff, I give a bit of a crap what he thinks.A few months back he turned me on to a track by the Dust Brothers (Chemical Brothers before they were called the Chemical Brothers) called Her Jazz.  I liked it so much that I decided to acquire it, which turned out to be a bit of a challenge.  I’m pretty sure I was able to download every single Chemical Brothers and Dust Brothers track and remix, except that one.  So I wound up spending $35 to acquire an actual physical vinyl of it (*gasp*, a real record, I know) from some guy on discogs.com.

Since then, I’ve wanted to work that into a set at an event where J was in attendance.  I hadn’t planned on playing it Saturday night, but I ended up with some extra time and worked it in there for him.  Sweet.

  2. J also has this thing he does when he gets drunk where, when he’s really into the music, he yells.  Not just a yell, but this “YYYYEEEEEEEEEAHHHHH!!!!!”  thing that you can hear over the music.  This guy has lungs like a freaking foghorn.  Once I heard him do that and I decided that someday I was going to elicit that response from him.  Saturday, night, I did!  With this track.

  3. As mentioned, I ended up with extra time behind the decks.  I had about 55 minutes worth of music prepared and rehearsed, and when that was up, it was only 1:25 and there was still plenty of time left.  So I just went for it, ad-libbing, mixing stuff in on the fly.  It was almost flawless with only one mix that was slightly off.  I’m stoked to have been able to do that.  :-)

So ya.  I had a blast :-)
