okay
clearly I am going to have to ease you guys into this whole Drum and Bass thing. It’s okay, it was an acquired taste for me too.
First, let’s start with this fun new track I discovered (by way of the remix, of course) by a British chick by the name of Lily Allen. She’s got a simple but sort of velvety, smooth voice, and this track has a fun, swingy, sort of jazz/ska sound to it. Why it reminds me of Amy Winehouse I don’t know, but it does. Essentially the song is about the revenge this girl gets on a guy who cheated on her. The video was banned from MTV because it shows the thugs this girl hires mugging and beating up the dude. Of course this is before they break into his apartment and scratch up all his vinyl records (OUCH).
Anyway, dig:

I’ve been listening almost exclusively to DnB the last couple weeks and have discovered that it’s not actually as fast and crazy as it initially sounds. All you have to do is sort of listen past the drums and percussion, if that makes sense. The tempo of DnB is almost exactly double that of a lot of hip-hop, so if you can dance to hip-hop, you can dance to this too. Just resist the urge to dance twice as fast. Listen past the drums and listen to this in half-time, if you will – the rest of the music really isn’t ridiculously fast at all.
Okay, now I’m going to throw you guys into the midst of the Drum n Bass remix of this track. Hopefully if you liked the original that will sort of ease the transition. This remix is just as much fun as the original, if not more:
